Mapping Controversies Award (La Novela, Monday the 7th of October 2013)

FORCCAST attended the festival La Novela, as part of a series of events on mapping controversies. This festival of shared knowledge took place from September 27 to October 13 2013 in Toulouse: an opportunity for the team to reveal the new Mapping Controversies Award.

The aim of this award is to present the best work achieved by students during Mapping Controversies courses, taught in France as well as in international schools, members of the Consortium Démoscience. The selection of six laureate controversies from different schools or higher education universities was based on the quality of the conducted investigation, the relevance of the formatting and the interest shown by students to make a public presentation out of it.

From Carbon Tax (Les Ponts ParisTech) to Bisphenol A (Mines ParisTech) including Open data (Telecom ParisTech), Soils battle (SciencesPo), Hydraulic fracture (Politecnico di Milano) or the architectural controversy on the Atlantic Yard (Princeton University School of Architecture), here is the selection for 2013: …

Liam Heaphy (teaching researcher of Axis 1 of the FORCCAST project at Sciences Po) and Nicolas Benvegnu (Lecturer of the course entitled “Mapping Scientific Controversies” at Sciences Po) are very pleased with the overall quality of the different presentations: they managed to arouse curiosity thanks to the up-front work carried out by the teaching teams, to the homogeneous presentation and to the students who put a lot into the project.

This event also led to friendly discussions and debates between students and with the audience.

Toulouse is known to be the first university town in France and the birthplace of technical and scientific innovation. FORCCAST cares to build local partnerships to participate more efficiently in the research dynamics of the city.
